How do courier contracts work?

How do contracts work at Thuisbezorgd.nl?

Our goal is to ensure you make the most of your time as a Thuisbezorgd.nl courier, and that you’re right for the job. That’s why we work with actual employment contracts, rather than hiring people on an independent basis. Getting your contract right is important - for you and for us.

Before we get into choosing your contract type, let's take a look at how our courier contracts work:

  • To work with us, you have to be 16 years old or above. If you’re currently under the age of 16, we hope you’ll apply to work with us when you’re able to.

  • Our contracts can have different lengths as well as different types (e.g. permanent or fixed). Don’t worry, we’ll explain more about this later.

  • Depending on your contract type, which we can discuss during the hiring process, you may have a probation period. This is just to ensure that we’re a good fit for one another.

What is a contract term?

A contract term determines your type of employment. In the Netherlands, our couriers are not employed directly by us, but hired through an employment agency. There are different ways we do this: on the basis of payrolling on either a permanent or fixed term basis.

What are the differences between permanent or fixed contracts?

Each type of contract has its own characteristics, which we’ll detail out below.

Permanent

Fixed

>No duration limit

>One month notice period*

>Fixed end date

>One month notice period

* Unless agreed otherwise in the personal employment contract.

What is an employment type?

The employment type determines how many hours you’ll be requested to work within a certain period. You could either be working full time or part time. For part timers, the amount of hours can be set per week, or per month.

Although we try to take personal preferences into consideration as much as possible, the employment type depends on the hours available.

What are the different employment types?

These are the different contract options:

  • Permanent contract (40 hours per week )

  • Contractual hours per period (12 hours per 4 weeks)

  • Contractual hours per week

    • 6 hours contract (minimum 6 hours per week)

    • 16 hours contract (minimum 16 hours per week, pre-defined shifts)

    • 24 hours contract (minimum 24 hours per week, pre-defined shifts)

    • 32 hours contract (minimum 32 hours per week, pre-defined shifts).

How long is the probation period at Thuisbezorgd.nl?

The probationary period is one calendar month for payroll couriers, who are on fixed term contracts of six months or longer. This way, we can ensure we're a good fit for one another – if not, either one of us can choose to end the contract with immediate effect.

What is the Thuisbezorgd resignation policy?

The resignation policy depends on your type of contract. Fixed-term contracts will automatically end on the agreed end date, unless either party decides to opt out on an earlier date. For payroll couriers with either a permanent contract or a fixed-term contract, the applicable notice period is one month. That means we’ll still expect you to meet the hours agreed upon in the contract for the rest of the month, counting from the date of handing in your written resignation.
