Studying at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam on a scholarship, Nefertari didn’t have much room left in her budget for fun activities. But then she found a part time job at Thuisbezorgd.nl. Not only could she earn an extra buck, she could easily combine it with her hobbies: photography and exploring.
Meet Nefertari
Nefertari is from Indonesia, where food is often delivered on motorcycles. “Over there, it’s a super stressful job because of all the traffic and because motorcycles ride at such high speeds. I thought it would be hard here as well, but it’s not. I just get to ride my bike to explore Amsterdam – and get paid for it”.
On the road, equipped with either a pocket camera or her phone, she’s always on the lookout for the perfect shot. “Amsterdam is a beautiful city, so whenever I bike around I’m just happy that I live here. And it gives me the chance to photograph all the buildings and people that I like”.
Besides working on her thesis and her job, Nefertari loves exploring different cities. “Because of my job, I now have a little bit of money to travel through the Netherlands. My background is in urban planning, so I like to experience a city, just for the sake of experiencing it".
The e-bike is what sets Thuisbezorgd.nl apart from other employers for Nefertari, but she also likes that she is paid per hour, not per delivery. This way, she can focus on doing her deliveries on time, without risking her own safety, or having to worry about her bike breaking down or getting stolen.
But the best, most unexpected added benefit of working here for her: “I met a lot of people at the Hub that I can talk to. They have such a wide range of backgrounds, which surprised me. Some of them are students like me, but some of them are also musicians! I’m always so amazed to find out what they do”.
